Strep

Well unfortunately it looks like Ella does have an infection. Yesterday we found out that the culture grew something that resembles strep, which is not that surprising since I tested positive for strep B 30 minutes before the C-section. She was started on antibiotics yesterday and the course of treatment will be determined once the culture is identified. We are praying that it is not strep because if it is she will need a lumbar puncture (like a spinal tap) to make sure the infection is not in the fluid around the brain. Poor Ella. We will keep you updated on this as soon as we find out more information.

Other than the infection, Ella seems to be doing well with less oxygen requirement everyday. We are hoping by next weekend she will be on "room air".

  1. Oh Gosh! poor baby....tell her Aunt Sandy has had three lumbar punctures....they aren't a picnic, but they sure help with diagnosis...
    Hang in there, little ones!

  3. Ugh! I know it's heart-wrenching to watch your little babies go through hard stuff. I cried when Hudson got his first shots (which, of course, is not as hard as what you guys are going through). But take heart, we're praying for you all!

  4. Chandler and I just took Gyro for a long walk, and I think it was good for him to talk some stuff out... He took out much of his frustration on sticks, which I think is constructive.

    We're praying for you guys.

  5. Good grief, Ella! You are going to prematurely grey your mother! I hope the rest of the weekend had better news for you!

I did some research on the brain cysts and it sounds like they are a fairly normal variant that sometimes shows up on ultrasound before babies are born and disappear by the time they are born....so sounds like they will go away?!?!

We are keeping all of the Tinslers in our prayers!
